TP 1: Theory of the Mechanism of the Twin Polymerisation (2. FP)
Project Manager: Prof. Dr. Alexander A. AuerMPI für Chemische Energiekonversion, Mülheim an der Ruhr
Project Goals:
During the first funding period, the scope of possible twin polymerisation strategies to obtain nanocomposites has been significantly broadened.
Apart from organic/inorganic nanocomposites consisting of phenol resin and silica components, several other building blocks have been investigated.
Furthermore, the simultaneous twin polymerisation has added another layer of complexity to the existing techniques, opening a whole new range of possibilities.
In addition to the proton catalyzed twin polymerisation, the thermal, anionic and radical twin polymerisation have been reported.
In the framework of this project, electron structure calculations are applied to obtain a deeper mechanistic understanding of different variants of the twin polymerisation.
While the focus of this work will also be on the proton catalyzed twin polymerisation (also within the simultaneous twin polymerisation), the thermal twin polymerisation will
be explored in greater detail as well. Here, a wealth of experimental data exists that will be supplemented by quantum chemical investigations.
